Welcome

Welcome to Spanish 1! My name is Miss McCord and I am looking forward to a great year with all of you. Some background about myself: I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Marketing Management. After working in retail management for a time, I had the opportunity to work with high school students. I developed and directed a summer employment program in Sunnyslope (northwest Phoenix) for three summers. I really enjoyed seeing the students grow in their work positions and found this age group to be a lot of fun. Years later, I lived in Mexico, which was a life-changing experience for me. This experience helped inspire me to teach Spanish. I enjoy traveling and have been to various parts of the world. I have found that learning a new language is an adventure and can be a great help in forming new connections with people from around the world. I hope to pass on this gift to my students.

To Students: Welcome to Spanish 1! Learning a foreign language can be fun and exciting, but it can also be challenging at times. My hope is that you will put forth your best effort in all our class activities and assignments, and that you will spend at least 10 minutes each night reviewing your notes and studying the vocabulary and grammar that we learn in class. When you do this, you are giving yourself the gift of allowing the bits of language you acquired in class to sink in so that you can remember it later!

To Parents: It is a great gift for me to have the privilege of teaching your student the Spanish language. To support them in their learning, I would ask that you help make sure they are reviewing and studying their Spanish notes, vocabulary, and grammar at least 5 nights each week. In addition, they may have homework that needs to be completed. You can check my website to see the assignment for the day and Family Link on the Mingus Union High School website to see if your student has completed the assignment. In this way, you will be able to see your student’s progress. Thank you in advance for your support in helping your student to be successful in Spanish 1!
